Become a "publisher" and display ads on your website. We have a block of these ads in the side column of our blog. You will earn cold, hard, cash for this. You won't get rich, but it might pay a bill. you can even earn 100 points a day just for writing a new article on your blog.

I have been spending most of my time completely re-working our main Lohman Trading web site. It was about time for an upgrade over there. It used to be just a landing page for our stores ... but not anymore. We have decided to spruce the joint up and turn it into a real website. :-)

New Handmade Items

As many of you know, we have been selling on eBay since about 2005 with our Simple Treasures Collage store. This has always been our main store, and will probably continue to be so because of the ease of listing. Lately, though, we have been putting a lot of time into our Etsy store and our ArtFire store. These two locations allow us to offer more unique items.

Through Etsy and ArtFire we are spotlighting some of our handmade items ... not just supplies. We currently have some of Kimmi's ACEO's for sale (in ATC size) in addition to some very nice handpainted ATC card blanks that she made. You can see some of these items in the picture above. In the very near future we hope to add many more handmade items including greeting cards.

Benefits of Unmounted Rubber Stamps and EZ Mount Foam

You've seen the massive aisle of rubber stamps for sale at your local crafts store. You have probably purchased half of them. But those rubber stamps mounted on wood blocks may be greatly hampering your creative ability.

You may find that purchasing and using unmounted rubber stamps can make you a little happier and allow you to own many more stamps ! Here are just some of the benefits of using unmounted Rubber Stamps:

1. Unmounted rubber stamps can cost 50% to 75% less then stamps mounted on wood blocks. can you imagine being able to double or triple your rubber stamp collection for the same amount of money ?

2. You can fit about 4 unmounted rubber stamps into the same space as 1 wood mounted rubber stamp. Imagine doing away with all of the clutter in your craft area !

3. If you purchase your rubber stamps over the Internet or from a catalogue, shipping on unmounted rubber stamps will usually be a lot less then wood mounted stamps. Then weight of the wood blocks can double or triple your shipping costs.

4. If you use EZ Mount Static Cling Foam your unmounteds can be used on acrylic blocks rather then wood blocks. This means that you only need 1 set of blocks for your entire stamp collection.

5. If you use EZ Mount Static Cling Foam you can easily store your rubber stamps in binders and CD Jewel cases which can help you even more in cleaning your craft area.

6. clear acrylic blocks allow you to align your rubber stamp images much better then wood blocks since they are see-through.

7. You do not need to use a stamping mat under your projects, unlike other unmounted / acrylic block stamps that use double sided tape, velcro, and the like that require you to do so.

We think that once you start using unmounted rubber stamps you will find them to be much more enjoyable then wood mounted stamps ... and you will save a lot of money !

Give it a try you may never go back to wood mounted stamps !

Converting Wood Mounted Rubber Stamps to EZ Mount

EZ Mount is one of the very best ways to mount rubber stamps. Using EZ Mount cling foam will allow you to use your rubber stamps on clear acrylic blocks, which in turn allow much better stamp alignment on the paper. In addition, you can then store your stamps on EZ Mount Stamp-N-Stor binder sheets in binders. Add on top of that, your unmounted stamps cost less to purchase and are cheaper to ship. EZ Mount helps you stamp better, save money, and save a lot of space storing your stamps.

So what do you do with your "old" wood mounted stamps ? How about convert them to EZ Mount ! In 6 easy steps you can convert your older stamps:

1. Place wood mounted stamp in microwave for 5 to 15 seconds depending upon the size of the stamp.

2. The glue should now be loose enough to peel the rubber away from the foam. Rub off any left over glue on the rubber and clean with alcohol.

3. Cut out a piece of EZ Mount foam a little bigger then your stamp.

4. Peel the blue-printed liner to expose the adhesive side of the foam and mount your cleaned rubber stamp.

5. Trim away excess foam to the edge of the rubber. If your KAI scissors become sticky, clean them with alcohol.

6. Remove the paper liner from the other side to expose the static cling.

You are now ready to use your stamp on acrylic blocks. They can also be stored in binders on the EZ Mount Stamp-N-Stor binder sheets !

Craft Tip: Go Green With Buttons

Brads and eyelets make for some great embellishments for cards, ATC's, ACEO's, scrapbook pages, and many other crafts, but sometimes it's nice to spend no money (or very little) on embellishments while also "recycling".

Buttons from old shirts, jackets, and pants can make fantastic and unique embellishments. Some of the vintage buttons can add style to your project that you just cannot get from a mass-produced brad or eyelet. The best part ... many of us probably already have a drawer full of stray buttons that could easily be used for embellishments. If you don't, you can usually find boxes full of buttons at yard sales or at your local thrift store.

Attach the button(s) to your craft project using double sided tape, glue, or simply sew it to the paper. Personally, I would go for the sewing as I believe it adds extra uniqueness and style to the project. Use cardstock for your project if you are going to sew as it will be less likely to tear.

ACEO: Inspire Bird 2009 (ATC)

This is a beautiful ACEO that Kimmi ( Lohman Trading ) made just this last weekend (April, 2009).

It features a vintage style floral / advertisement background with raised (3d) flowers and a metallic "INSPIRE" embellishment. The bird is a stamped image from the Inkadinkado Gem Stone Birds stamp set that has been adorned with green, peridot, blue, and orange acrylic rhinestones. I just love the bird sitting above the "seeds advertisement" !

Craft Example: What Time Is It Greeting Card

Here's a nice greeting card that Kimmi stamped close to 3 years ago now ...

It seems that most rubber stamps and crafts made from them are somewhat feminine oriented, so I thought this would be a great time to post a masculine greeting card made with rubber stamps. I believe Kimmi gave this to her father for either his birthday or Father's Day.

What Time Is It ?

This is a nice greeting card that doesn't take too much time to make.

One of the very best clock and watch parts stamp sets to use for this type of card is the 17 stamp "It's About Time" Rubber Stamp Set.

Kimmi started with a flat white card-stock greeting card. From there she added the tan card-stock to the front and then the Victorian green and deep red card-stock squares to the top of the tan card stock. She then stamped the words directly to the tan card-stock using an alphabet rubber stamp set. The watches and clocks were stamped on to white card-stock, cut out, and attached to the greeting card.

Next time you have a little spare time, why not stamp some greeting cards !

Craft Example: Creepy Crawly ATC

Thought it might be a good time to put up some craft projects Kimmi has done over the last few months. Enjoy !

This a real cool ATC ( Artist Trading Card ) that Kimmi made just a week ago for a friend. This "Creep And Crawl" card was made with multiple collage layers applied to very heavy card stock that had been cut to size. She acquired most of the collage pieces from the newspaper and various collage image sheets that she has. The finishing touch, of course, is the fiber (yarn) scarf.

As a side note, Artist Trading Cards are typically 1 of 1 pieces of mini-art that the artist names, signs, dates, and then gives to another. Rubber stamping, painting, drawing, paper piercing, embellishments, and many other craft techniques can be used to make an ATC. (more on ATC's in a future article)

Craft Example: Butterfly Duet Greeting Card

Thought it might be a good time to put up some craft projects Kimmi has done over the last few months. Enjoy !

This is a handmade greeting card that Kimmi made in the Spring to use for some of her Summer RAK's. This is a bright, cheerful card made with the Posh Impressions Butterfly Kisses duet rubber stamp set.

The background is white, glossy card stock distressed in a yellow ink with multiple "quick stampings" of the solid butterfly. That is then applied to a flat black card stock with a flat black card stock band. The center image is the solid butterfly stamp with the black outline stamped over the top. This is done on bright white card stock. Kim used Marvy Markers to ink the stamps as opposed to a stamp pad.

Using Vintage Playing Cards In Scrapbooking, ATC's

This is one of the areas that Simple Treasures Collage really enjoys specializing in ! Most of the vintage playing cards are rather inexpensive and there are almost limitless uses for them ! Most cards are printed on THICK stock and have a nice medium gloss to them. Here are just a few different uses for Playing Cards:

1. Use To Create Backgrounds:
Use a single playing card to create a background on a small item such as a tag. Use multiple, contrasting cards to create a background on a sheet of paper, card, scrapbook, or the like.

2. Use As Embellishments:
Try cutting the "image" out of the card and using it as an addition to a tag, altered book, scrapbook, bookmark, handmade greeting card, collage, or ?. Many of the images on these cards are quite beautiful and would make a great addition to just about any craft project !

3. Use The Face Of The Card:
Use the face of a playing card to add some flair to your collage. Use the entire card or try cutting out the numbers, suits, or the King / Queen / Jack to set your craft project apart from the rest !

4. Creating ATC's:
Vintage playing cards make great Artist Trading Cards. These give you a fantastic artistic foundation to begin your card with. Try distressing the card with an emery board or sandpaper and then lightly inking with Tim Holtz Distress Inks for an even more unique card. Add your personal art, some rubber stamp images, fibers, and embellishments to help it stand out.

5. Swap Cards
This is a quite popular hobby in some parts of Europe and Australia. It is just now becoming popular in the United States. Vintage playing cards are collected and swapped much like American Baseball cards. While there is no craft involved, this is mentioned here because you may be able to swap your extra cards ...

Many of the playing cards that we carry are vintage cards from the 1940's, 50's, 60s' and 70's. Adding these to your period piece can really send the viewer down memory lane !

It is that time of year again ! Get ready to fire up the BBQ, visit the fireworks stands, and work through all of your plans to win the "Best Fireworks Display" in your neighborhood. Your neighbors have nothing on you ! You are the master of Independence Day !

Ohhhh, but we are getting ahead of ourselves. We still have to send out the invitations for the Barbaque. Handmade invitations will definately set you apart and using the Bird Flag rubber stamp above will accomplish this goal. This stamp comes from Sunday International and is available individually or as part of the Folk Art Rubber Stamp Set.

You will definately want to record your all-American experience of dominating the skys with colorful explosions, so make sure to take a lot of pictures so you can show off your expertise. On July 5th you may want to sit down in a quite corner of your house and start work on your 2006 Fourth Of July Scrapbook.

This is a fantastic set of 21 classic red rubber stamps that have been mounted on EZ Mount Static Cling Foam and professionally cut out. All of the stamps in this set are completely ready to use on clear acrylic blocks and can be stored in the Stamp-N-Stor storage system !

This set is already proving to be very popular ! It features some fantastic stamps including; ladybug rubber stamps, sewn flower rubber stamps, a great clay flower pot rubber stamp, a unique butterfly rubber stamp, Ric Rac and ribbon border rubber stamps, a couple of bow rubber stamps, and much more.

Here is a great example of what can be made from this set. This is a simple creation using the 2 flower rubber stamps, the ladybug rubber stamp, and the clay pot rubber stamp.
